Wi-Fiber Scavenger Hunt

#WiFiber #MyDiscoveryDestination

Pre-K Adventure

Our littlest Adventurers may need a little help from mom and dad, but they can still participate in all of the activities.

There is nothing more fun during the summer than a good, old-fashioned scavenger hunt with a new, hi-tech twist!

For this Adventure you will be heading all over Cache Valley to find ‘evidence’ that you’ve completed some low-tech activities with a HIGH-tech company!

Here are the 7 things you need to find/do to complete the scavenger hunt:

  1. Find a picture of a Wi-Fiber lawn sign and take your photo with it. There are over 200 of them throughout Cache Valley. To make it a little easier on you, Wi-Fiber will provide hints every week in the #TuesdayTrends thread of where you can find one. (We’ll start with one hint here: None of them are located within Logan City. You’ll need to get out around the county to find them.)
  2. It’s SELFIE time! Take a picture next to the Wi-Fiber building. Not sure where it is?  Use the internet to find out!  :). (Parents– feel free to take the ‘selfie’ for your child showing them from the back instead of showing faces if you prefer.)
  3. While you’re on-line, take an on-line stroll over and ‘Like’ the Wi-Fiber facebook page.
  4. More SELFIE time! Take a selfie next to one of the Wi-Fiber towers. They have towers located near the USU stadium and another one behind the Providence theatres.
  5. What is the largest number of devices you can use on the Wi-Fiber internet?  Find out on the Wi-Fiber website and then find that number somewhere in the world around you and take a picture of it.
  6. Take a screen shot of a speed test. Parents– here are the instructions for how to do this in case you don’t know (like I didn’t know!) Simply type ‘speed test’ into your browser and then click on the ‘Run Speed Test’ button. Easy Peasy!!  Next is taking a screen shot. That one depends on your phone. If you don’t know how, ask someone (probably a kid!)
  7. Pick up a Wi-Fiber residential brochure. There are plenty of locations to find them. Here is a list of a few of the most obvious places:
    1. Any time!  The Wi-Fiber office (pick it up when you come down to take your photo in front of our building)
    2. (June)  SummerFest!  We will have a booth at SummerFest. Come visit us a pick up a brochure
    3. (July)   Logan City 4th of July celebration, which will include the Car Show and the Logan Run
    4. (Aug)    Cache County Fair

Once you have completed the scavenger hunt post your selfies to your social media networks and the group page with hashtags #Wi-Fiber and #MyDiscoveryDestination.

Super Achiever Adventure

All right, SUPER Achievers!  After going all over town looking for Wi-Fiber signs, taking photos with the towers, etc., you are going to have lots of questions about the internet:

  1. What is the history of the internet?
  2. How old is the internet?
  3. Who invented it?
  4. Who owns it?
  5. Why was it originally developed?
  6. How does it work?
  7. When did it become popular in homes?
  8. How has the internet changed the world in positive ways?
  9. What are some of the dangers that came along with the internet?
  10. How can you use the internet in positive ways? (#UseTech4Good!)
  11. How did people live without the internet!?!  (Yup! I’ve wondered that myself- and I should know- I lived a couple of decades without it. I can’t even imagine that now!)

Take some time to use the internet to research the internet and answer these questions and any others you come up with. Share what you learn with your parents and discuss these questions with them.  Be sure to ask them what they remember the world being like before the internet (if they are old enough to remember), or how the internet has changed from when they first remember.
