Basic Adventure

Riding a bike is a very healthy and fun way to stay fit and healthy. Take some time to learn how to maintain your bicycle. Here are some things you should know:

Maintaining adequate air pressure. Check the air pressure monthly. Here is a video clip on how to do that:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1ikuRf9aOo

Keep the chain on your bike lubricated. Here is a video on how to do that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6icycUGNJSU

It’s important to know how to change a tire: Here is a video on how to do that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZbeR0mJBkk

What about patching the inner tube?  You can learn that here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0F_hibWHlU

What about cleaning your bike? Here is a video on how to do that:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-lGLbd3BWE

Last, but certainly not least . . . keep your bicycle out of the rain! More bikes get ruined from being rained on and rusting than anything else.

Super Achiever Adventure

Now that you know how to care for your bike, it’s time to organize a neighborhood bike safety rodeo and parade. Here are some suggestions:

  • Set-up a bike decorating station where everyone can decorate their bicycles for a parade
  • Organize a bicycle parade for the 4th of July, or any other day!
  • Find an avid biker in your neighborhood or community and invite them to come visit with you and other kids in the neighborhood. You can ask them to show you things like caring for your bike, preparing for a long bike ride, bike safety rules, etc.
